WORKSHOP

We shape skis; skis shape us.

Against the wall, pieces of wood stand upright. All around, aluminum sheets and rolls of virgin fiber. A massive machine dominates the space. It transforms the technical drawing into material. On the other side of the workshop, the scent of resin fills the air. Prototypes are lined up, each embodying an intuition, a hypothesis, a sensation. It is here, just a stone’s throw from the north faces of Chamonix, that each ski takes shape before meeting the snow.

PROTOTYPE

Redefining the boundaries of freeriding.

Within the walls of the ZAG Lab, shapers and athletes are developing three new prototypes. Three visions for the future of freeride skiing. 95, 105, and 110 millimeters wide at the waist. The prototypes are piling up. The measurements are being refined. Certainties are built by process of elimination. Between the workshop and the terrain. The still-fresh resin and the snow on north-facing slopes. The answer will take shape next winter. For now, it’s still here. Suspended between two layers, somewhere within the thickness of a prototype.
