ZAG Lab

We shape skis, skis shape us.

Where every ski takes shape.

Against the wall, timber planks stand upright. Around them, sheets of aluminum and rolls of fiber wait along the floor. At the center, a machine the size of a boulder turns drawings into material. You smell the resin before you see any of it. Prototypes stand in a row, each one a hunch, a hypothesis, a sensation we carry up to the snow. This is where every ZAG ski takes shape, within reach of the north faces, before it ever touches the mountain.

Next winter.

Three new freeride board shapes for next winter.

Right now, three freeride shapes sit half-finished on the bench, 95, 105 and 110 underfoot. Follow each one run after run as we narrow it down to the fastest line through deep snow. Members ski it before it ever reaches the shop.

The Shapers

Each prototype travels back and forth between the workbench and the north faces.

On the bench.

Redrawing the freeride line.

Inside the Lab, we work the three new freeride prototypes, each one a different answer to where freeride goes next. The shapes pile up, the runs pile up, and certainty comes by elimination, one descent at a time, between the workshop and the snow of the north faces. The answer takes shape next winter. For now it stays here, suspended between two layers, somewhere inside a prototype.
