zag lab

Nestled in the heart of Chamonix, at the base of the Grands Montets, you'll find the ZAG Lab: a unique  workshop where craftsmanship and innovation meet to create  the skis of tomorrow . This is where ZAG masters its know-how, true to its roots and its commitment to local, carefully managed manufacturing.

The ZAG Lab is more than just a production site — it’s a true innovation hub. Every prototype is imagined, crafted, and tested here with remarkable speed. Being based in Chamonix provides a unique advantage: the ability to test new designs on a wide range of snow conditions just steps away from the workshop. This close connection to the mountain allows ZAG to fine-tune and perfect its skis with unmatched precision and agility.

At the heart of this constant innovation are two passionate engineers: Bastien Saillard and Paul Chevallot. Driven by a spirit of curiosity and never fully satisfied, they push boundaries by experimenting with new shapes, cutting-edge materials, and pioneering constructions. Their goal is clear, as R&D Director Bastien Saillard explains:

"We constantly feel the need to innovate in order to offer ever more intuitive, comfortable and high-performance skis, providing skiers with unique sensations."

This commitment to excellence has led to the creation of several iconic lines, including the UBAC range, designed for ski touring, and the SLAP range — ZAG’s signature freeride skis. These skis have earned top-level recognition, notably helping Wadeck Gorak secure victory at the Xtrème de Verbier in 2019.

But beyond pure performance, the ZAG Lab supports another ambition: to think more responsibly about skiing.
Thanks to our ZAGreen Program, the team integrates eco-friendly materials and develops new design methods to reduce our overall impact on the environment.

The ZAG Lab is more than just a workshop — it's the reflection of a mindset. It embodies the spirit of an independent brand, firmly believing that craftsmanship, innovation, and respect for the mountains can come together to create truly unique products. Each ski is thoughtfully designed and tested as close to the peaks as possible, with passion and precision.
