UBAC

89

The shape

Light up, honest down.

The Ubac 89 is built around a paulownia core wrapped in carbon, light wood and strong fiber doing the work that heavier skis need mass for. On the climb every step costs less, so a long day stops fighting your legs halfway up. The narrow waist swings quickly through kick turns on a steep track. Point it down and the same lightness stays lively, with enough edge to hold a firm spring slope. It skis far better than its weight suggests, which is the whole point of a fast touring ski.

The ski

For the days measured in vertical.

This is the ski for the days where the climb is the point. Long spring tours when the snow firms up overnight and you want to move fast and far. Dawn starts on an icy skin track where light skis save your legs for the summit. Rolling glacier approaches where kilometers matter more than deep snow. It carries you up efficiently and skis the descent cleanly on the firm, transformed snow you find on the way down. For deep powder after the climb, the wider Ubacs wait. For distance and height, this is the one.

Shaper's Note

Every gram earns its place.

We shaped the Ubac 89 for the skier who counts vertical, not turns. The goal was to strip weight everywhere it did not cost us the descent, in the core and the build, and keep shape where it earns the way down, in the edge and the tip. We took it on long dawn tours around the massif, cutting grams until the climb felt easy and stopping before the ski turned nervous on hard snow. Light enough to go farther, solid enough to enjoy the run home.

Construction

Lightweight Construction:
One goal: to provide skiers with a lightweight, comfortable ski for all snow conditions. This is achieved through a combination of fiberglass and carbon fibers, making the skis in the Freerando line twice as torsionally stiff. The paulownia wood core saves a few extra grams without compromising the ski’s feel on the snow or its long-term durability, as a foam core might. The ABS sidewalls and high-strength steel edges ensure these skis can withstand the bumps and impacts they’ll encounter throughout the winter. A construction that allows freerando skiers to ski in complete safety!

Semi-Cap:
Our SEMI-CAP sandwich construction ensures optimal power transfer throughout the ski and provides the skier with all the grip needed on the hardest snow. The skis’ durability is also extended thanks to the ABS sidewalls (increased resistance to cold and impacts).

Rockers & Camber

Tip Rocker “25%”
Tail Rocker “15%”

Moderate camber

Shape

Multi-radius shape:
A ski design method that allows the radii to vary across several independent zones (front, middle, rear). This enables a very short radius underfoot (for increased maneuverability) while maintaining forgiving tips in difficult snow conditions.

Flex

Stiffness:
4/5

Torsional stiffness:
Its good torsional stiffness optimizes its grip on hard snow.

Who is the UBAC 89 designed for?

For the regular hiker, the experienced alpine skier transitioning to the “ Touring,” and the enthusiast of long-distance ski tours and backcountry skiing. This is the explorer of the lineup: the lightest, most responsive, and most precise in turns.

Which size of UBAC 89 should you choose?

The UBAC 89 is available in 155 and 162 cm for women, 169 cm for unisex, and 176 and 183 cm for men. For a classic Touring , choose your usual size or 5 cm smaller: this makes it easier to step out of your boots on the trail and provides better maneuverability on steep terrain.

What are the dimensions and radius of the UBAC 89?

The UBAC 89 has a base width of 89 mm. Dimensions range from 121 × 89 × 107 mm for the 155 cm model to 126 × 89 × 111 mm for the 183 cm model, with a turning radius ranging from 16 to 20 m. Detailed specifications by size are listed in the table on the product page.

How much does the UBAC 89 weigh?

The UBAC 89 weighs between 1,150 g for the 155 cm length and 1,400 g for the 183 cm length, per ski.

What is the profile of UBAC 89?

Medium camber, slight double rocker, stiff flex, medium turn radius.

Which " Bindings " should be installed on the UBAC 89?

The UBAC 89 is mounted using an insert- Binding : the FORGE[Tour] (DIN 4-10, 91, 97, or 102 mm brakes, 295 g) or the FORGE[Pro] (DIN 3-11), for example.

Is the installation of the Bindings s included with the UBAC 89?

Yes, assembly is included if you purchase Bindings at the same time as your skis and provide us with the necessary assembly information (boot shell length in mm / skier's weight / skier's skill level / skier's age).

Is the UBAC 89 stable on the descent despite its light weight?

Its stiff flex and medium camber grip hard snow without bending. It’s light enough for steep descents and sturdy enough to ensure the run down isn’t just a trip back to the parking lot.

Which skin for the UBAC 89?

An 89 mm ZAG base, available in Pro or Classic. Three lengths: S for size 155, M for sizes 162 and 169, L for sizes 176 and 183.

What is the difference between UBAC 89 and UBAC 95?

Six millimeters at the tip, for the same profile: medium camber, slight double rocker, stiff flex. Those 6 mm make all the difference in soft snow. The 89 excels at vertical and grip, while the 95 really shines in powder.
